Founder & Chairman

Imad is the founder of Elias Marine Consultants Ltd, I Elias & Co LLC and Elias Law Limited.

After gaining his Masters in Maritime Law from the University of Southampton, Imad started his career at Ince & Co in London and qualified as a Solicitor in 1991. He has over 30 years of experience in shipping, commercial, insurance and reinsurance disputes. Imad is predominantly engaged in arbitrations and dispute management on behalf of shipowners and their P&I and H&M underwriters. He is extensively involved in advising insurers on coverage issues, ship casualties and in handling large property insurance and reinsurance claims in the Middle East (both marine and non-marine including political violence and business interruption). Imad is also involved in drafting, advising and negotiating contracts and tenders in the offshore oil and gas sector. Imad acts as a part-time arbitrator and is an LMAA supporting member. He is presently the Managing Director of Elias Law Limited and I. Elias & Co LLC.

Managing Director

Riad is a Managing Director at Elias Marine Consultants Ltd.

Having has over 30 years’ of experience in the shipping industry he started his career working in ship operation and management of vessels owned by the Elias family. Subsequently, prior to joining Elias Marine Consultants in 1995, he worked for eight years as a ship agent in Egypt where he acquired hands-on experience in ports and customs procedures and regulations. Riad predominantly deals with shipowners and P&I Clubs for all types of matters. Riad is fluent in Arabic and English.

Managing Director

Koula joined Elias Marine Consultants Ltd – Cyprus in 2000 and has over 20 years experience in the marine consulting sector.

Koula graduated from the University of Leicester, where she obtained an LL.B (honours) degree in Law and holds and LLM in International Maritime Law from the World Maritime University. Koula oversees and handles a variety of claims work ranging from ship arrests, crew claims, and has been involved in major ship casualties throughout her career. She is also heavily involved in the offshore oil and gas sector and has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and tenders related thereto. Koula is fluent in both English and Greek.

Divisional Manager / Risk & Claims

Rony joined Elias Marine Consultants in 2002. During his 15 years

with Elias Marine he has gained broad experience in claims handling and risk prevention methods such as pre-purchase inspections, insurance condition surveys and cargo condition surveys. Rony deals closely with the firms’ shipowner clients guiding them on a daily basis on loss prevention and risk assessment measures as well as assisting them on H&M, P&I, FD&D claim issues. Rony is currently working towards his CII Diploma. Rony is fluent in Arabic, English and French.

Business Development Manager

Irina Stoianova joined the EMCO Group in May 2018 as a Business Development Manager.

Irina started her career 20 years ago as an accountant of which she spent 10 years in a shipowning and ship management business prior to joining Elias Marine Consultants Ltd. During her 10 years of experience in the shipowning and ship management business she gained much all round experience in her capacity as the company’s accountant and finance manager in addition to assisting the owners of the business in the management of the company and in Sale & Purchase of the company’s fleet, ship financing/refinancing, planning and fleet management analysis.

Irina gained a Bachelor in Economics & Entrepreneurship in 2000 and subsequently went on to attain a Masters in Accounting & Audit.

Since joining the EMCO Group she has been involved in the development of the Group as a whole and her all-round experience in the maritime industry has been of immense assistance in the various sectors in which the Group is involved.

Irina speaks English, Russian and Ukrainian.

Country Manager – Lebanon

Stefanel joined Elias Marine Consultants Ltd in October 2012 after obtaining a Law Degree in Lebanese and French Law

from the Francophone University in Beirut and holds an LLM in International Maritime Law. She spent two years with the Cyprus team in the head office assisting Claims executives in disputes in various Arab countries. She has since passed her Bar Association exams and is a member of the Beirut Bar Association. Stefanel deals with P&I claims, recovery claims and other matters within her own jurisdiction as well as in North African countries. She also handles the translation of various documents, including insurance policies, pleadings, minutes amongst others. Stefanel is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

Country Manager - Libya

Hesham joined Elias Marine in 2018.
With a steady focus on the maritime industry,

Hesham holds a BSc in Marine Navigation from the Academy of Maritime Studies – Libya, an MSc in Marine Transport from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a Phd in Seaport Governance Structure and Performance from Edinburgh Napier University.
During his career, Hesham spent some time with the Libyan Merchant fleet gaining practical seagoing experience. Familiar with claims handling, Hesham has dealt with many P&I related matters in the region whilst at a local correspondency firm. In addition, he has experience in the management and operation of tankers. He also lectured at University of Tripoli on maritime studies. Hesham is a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists and the Port Performance Research Network. He speaks fluent Arabic and English.

Senior Consultant / Surveyor.

Captain Andreas Frangos joined Elias Marine in 2024 as a Senior Consultant and Surveyor.

In addition to being a Master Mariner (Class A Captain), Andreas has almost 40 years of experience in the shipping industry, ranging from operations to technical, claims and insurance. For the last 30 years he held various positions including a Superintendent, Fleet Operator, Insurance (both H&M and P&I) and Marine Claims. He also has a Doctorate in Tanker Chartering and acts as an Associate Professor at the University of Nicosia.

In addition to Greek (his mother tongue) and English, Andreas speaks Russian and Italian.

Senior Claims Executive

Tania joined the EMCO GROUP in 2013 having obtained a bachelor

of Law Degree from the Lebanese University in Beirut. Tania assists on P&I claims and other matters in all Arab Countries of the Middle East as well as North and East Africa, inter-acting with EMCO’s GROUP local offices in the region. She has completed her Masters in Law in International Maritime Law from the World Maritime University in Sweden. Tania is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

Legal Manager – Egypt

Sherihan joined the Elias Marine team in 2019. She is a qualified Egyptian lawyer

having graduated from the University of Alexandria. Sherihan’s experience in local litigation comes from her roles in local law firms and most recently as in-house counselfor a large shipping agency. Although Sherihan has experience in Intellectual Property and Insurance law, corporate matters and litigation, the focus of her career is on maritime matters. Sherihan is also registered with the Financial Regulation Authority as a lawyer. Sherihan is fluent in Arabic and English.

Senior Legal Consultant

Safwat joined Elias Marine Consultants in Egypt in 2024 as a Senior Legal Consultant.

Safwat is an experienced qualified Egyptian lawyer having gained his Degree from the Faculty of Law in Alexandria University and completed his training in 1998. Since then Safwat has worked with law firms in Egypt and has also worked in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he was the Head of Dispute resolution and Transport & Logistics in addition to 6 years in Qatar.

Consultant

Aleksandr has joined Elias Marine Consultants in 2022.

He holds a BA in International Relations and MSc in Energy Industry Management.

Aleksandr is involved in negotiations with P&I correspondents, as well as he assists on marine insurance cases and P&I claims. He works with the maritime flag fleet management. Aleksandr is also involved in other cases related to the countries of the post-Soviet region and CIS.

He is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and English.
